Colombia-Hispaniola: Vendredi/ Friday 16.11.2012. Santo Domingo

Aujourd’hui, Jens va à l’institut de sismologie de l’Université ici à Santo Domingo. Il voudrait améliorer la coopération entre Loyola et l’Université.

Quand je descends par l'ascenseur, il est plein de soldats japonais portant une croix rouge sur leur uniforme!

Je prends un taxi pour aller au Jardin Botanique. Je demande au chauffeur pourquoi il y a tant de soldats japonais ici et il me répond qu'ils aident à Haiti après le tremblement de terre.

Il fait très chaud aujourd'hui.

A l’entrée du jardin, des classes entières attendent. Il y a des petits enfants d’âge de la maternelle et d’autres plus âgés. Ils sont tous en uniforme et sont bien sympathiques, tranquilles et attentifs à leurs maitresses.

Je rentre dans le jardin, on peut prendre un tour guidé, mais je préfère me promener toute seule. Le jardin est immense et bien soigné. Heureusement, de grands arbres font de l’ombre pratiquement partout, car même à l’ombre il fait très chaud. Je vais voir les orchidées qui, ici, sont dehors, pas besoin d’une serre comme à Bogota. Quelle variété ! Il y a aussi de nombreuses plantes aquatiques, des roses, des fougères, des cactus. Je ne peux pas voir tout.

Des petits panneaux expliquent la symbiose entre des arbres et les plantes grimpantes qui les escaladent. Mais parfois les lianes étouffent l’arbre et celui-ci meurt. Je fais beaucoup de photos, bien sûr.

Le chauffeur de taxi revient me chercher après deux heures. Il est bavard et intéressant.

Je déjeune à l’hôtel, me repose un peu, la chaleur fatigue et écris le blog.

Jens rentre très tard, et très occupé toute la journée, oublie de me prévenir. Je ne suis pas ravie, ravie …

Il se repose un peu et nous allons diner au petit restaurant italien à 10 mn à pied d’ici. C’est bon et très agréable.

C’est le dernier jour ici. Nous rentrons demain à Bergen.

Today, Jens is at the Institute of Seismology at the University here in Santo Domingo. He would like to improve the cooperation between Loyola and the University.

When I take the elevator to go down, there are many Japanese soldier going down too. They wear a red cross on their uniform.

I take a taxi to the Botanical Garden. I ask the driver about the Japanese soldier and he tells me that they are helping in Haiti after the earthquake.

It is very hot today.

At the entrance of the garden, many classes are waiting. There are small children of kindergarten age and older ones too. They are all in uniform and are very nice, quiet and attentive to their teachers.

I go into the garden, you can take a guided tour, but I prefer to walk alone. The garden is huge and well cared for. Fortunately, large trees provide shade almost everywhere, but even in the shade it is very hot. I'll see orchids, and here they are outside, no need to be in a greenhouse like in Bogotá. What a variety! There are also many aquatic plants, roses, ferns, cacti. I can not see everything.

Small panels explain the symbiosis between trees and vines that climb on them. But sometimes the vines choke the tree and it dies. I do a lot of photos, of course.

The taxi driver comes to get me back after two hours. He is talkative and interesting.

I have lunch at the hotel, rest a little because I am a little put down by the heat and write the blog.

Jens comes home late, and very busy the whole day forgot to call me. I am not too happy about that …

He rests a little and we go to the Italian restaurant, a10 minutes walk from here, where the food is good and the personal very nice.

Today is our last day in Santo Domingo, we fly back to Bergen tomorrow.
